No es tan intenso el rojo de unos labios
como el de aquellas piedras que besan nuestros muertos.
El dulce lamentar de plañideras
sólo inspira vergüenza a su amor puro.

Wilfred Edward Salter Owen (Oswestry, Shropshire, 18 de marzo de 1893 - Ors, 4 de noviembre de 1918) fue un poeta y un soldado británico. Su mentor, Siegfried Sassoon, fue una clara influencia en su chocante y cruda poesía acerca de los horrores de la Primera Guerra Mundial, que contrastaba con la percepción general que se tenía de la misma. Entre sus obras más conocidas figuran "Anthem for Doomed Youth", "Dulce Et Decorum Est", "Insensibility", "Strange Meeting", "Futility" y "The Parable of the old man and the young".
